Cinnamon Roll Galore
Who knew there were so many ways you could make cinnamon rolls!?
Christmas Cinnamon Rolls:
My mother grew up with her mother making multiple dozen cinnamon rolls around Christmas time with a brown sugar butter topping. As I’ve grown up, I’ve continued this tradition, making 3 dozen cinnamon rolls the week before Christmas so we could enjoy them throughout the Christmas week, including Christmas morning after presents. This is the type of cinnamon roll I grew up with.
Cookie!
At the end of last year, when I was exploring different times of cookies, I made a cinnamon roll cookies which reminded me of how many kinds of cinnamon rolls you can make! This got me thinking about what other forms of cinnamon rolls I could create!
The Classic:
I first made a generic cinnamon roll recipe with a perfect thick cream cheese frosting. These were fluffy and delicious!!
After losing a bet to my weight trainer, I made him a mega cinnamon roll, which was the most fun thing to create. When I first thought of this idea, I was troubled by how I would roll up a cinnamon roll with this large of a diameter. After looking at some recipes, I figured out that once you roll out the dough and spread the filling on it, you cut the rectangle into long strips. You can then roll the first strip up like a normal cinnamon roll and place it in the middle of a cake pan. Then, you take every consecutive strip and wrap it around that middle one. After toping this masterpiece off with some cream cheese frosting, and tasting it, I can say that it was delicious! I think my athletic trainer would agree as well, as you can see from the photos.
Scone:
This week, due to a hurricane coming for New Orleans, school got canceled, so I had some extra time on my hands to play around with a new type of cinnamon roll. Despite never making any type of scone before, I decided to make cinnamon roll scones. This was a very new and interesting experience. After making the dough, rolling it out, and spreading the filling out, I rolled the dough as if I were making normal cinnamon rolls. I then froze the dough all rolled up. To cut them, I cut the dough into 4 equal size pieces, then each one diagonally. I cut the scones perfectly diagonally, but this made them not able to stand upright, so I laid them on their circular side, which allowed them to open up while they cooked. This created an interesting shape, but it almost looks like an illusion. I finished them with a simple milk, vanilla, powdered sugar icing. They were impeccable!! I highly recommend making them sometime!
